Alternative Congestion Relief

Alternative Congestion Relief programs promote transit and other forms of commuting to reduce the use of single occupancy vehicles

One percent of all Measure A sales tax dollars are allocated to encourage such alternatives as carpooling, ride-sharing and flexible work hours. Funds also can be used for Intelligent Transportation Systems that facilitate more efficient use of existing highways and transit systems. This includes such things as highway ramp metering, signal priority for transit vehicles, and real-time travel information.

It is estimated that $15 million will be generated over the life of the measure for these kinds of programs. Matching state and federal funds will be used to double these funds for a total investment of $30 million.
