Half Moon Bay Highway Improvement Project Begins

WHAT:

A Groundbreaking to kick off a highway improvement project that will relieve traffic congestion and improve safety in Half Moon Bay.

WHEN:

10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 28

WHERE:

The event will be held in the parking lot of the Rite Aid shopping center, located at the intersection of highways 92 and 1.

WHY:

Highway 92 crosses two main arterials at the entrance to Half Moon Bay – Main Street and Highway 1. This project will reconfigure these busy intersections.

At the intersection with Main Street, Highway 92 will be widened from two to four lanes. A second right-turn lane for traffic turning onto Main Street will be added to eastbound Highway 92. A new right-turn lane will be added to westbound Highway 92 for traffic turning onto North Main Street. A second left-turn lane will be added to Highway 1 for traffic turning onto Highway 92. In addition, bike lanes and sidewalks will be added to Main Street.

The Half Moon Bay highway improvements are the result of a partnership between Half Moon Bay and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, which provided more than $12 million in Measure A half-cent sales tax funding for the improvements.

WHO:

Speakers will include:
John Lee, chair, San Mateo County Transportation Authority
Marina Fraser, mayor, Half Moon Bay
Gene Gonzalo, district #4 division chief, Caltrans
